The Blue Mountains resort is putting out a call or artist submissions as part of an installation to elevate Indigenous voices.
Blue Mountains Resort Manager of Public Relations Tara Lovell says in a notice, the call for artists to submit their work is part of a new on-mountain art installation.
The resort has set aside a large, open area at the top of the mountain where the work will be visible year-round.
All submissions will be reviewed by a panel including people from Blue Mountain leadership and employees, residents, and people from the Indigenous community.
Lovell says the selected artist or artist group will be given $5,000 and commission for the work, and infrastructure will be built in collaboration with the artist to ensure people can view the work all year.
Lovell says the work submitted must celebrate Indigenous communities and culture, and artists are encouraged to put sustainability at the forefront of their art work, while also keeping in mind that it will be displayed outdoors.
Lovell says, “we wanted to put the call out specifically for art that can help us celebrate and elevate the culture and community of the Indigenous peoples.”
Submissions will be due July 21 and the installation will occur before the upcoming ski season.
