Barrie is inviting residents and visitors to celebrate July 1st (Canada Day) as a kickoff to summer with celebrations and free activities in the city.
There will be a variety of family friendly programs and attractions at Meridian Place starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, including a display of Canadian wildlife, busker performances, airbrush tattoos, and games.
Residents and visitors can also enjoy live entertainment on the Meridian Place stage featuring local performers, including Baytown Big Band and OMCI (Ontario Musicians Co-operative Inc.).
The celebrations will finish off with a fireworks display over Kempenfelt Bay starting at 10 p.m.

- Pro Wrestling – kicking off Thursday, June 30th in Meridian Place with Barrie Wrestling’s ‘Time for Some Action’ Live free Pro Wrestling match at 7pm. Wrestlers will continue to hit the ring Friday July 1st & Saturday July 2nd starting at 12 noon.
- ‘Open Air Dunlop’ along Dunlop Street- 10am to midnight continues Saturday, July 2nd with a full road closure that includes inflatables, kids activities, street performers, patios and more!
- ‘Open Air Afternoons’ Meridian Place Stage 2pm Toronto Alt-Rock Band Birds of Bellwoods perform live. Produced by 2-time Grammy Award-winner Dave Schiffman (Vampire Weekend, Haim, PUP), the work combines foundations of 2000s alternative with new school indie-pop.

- New this Saturday at 9:45am – Join ‘Pilates for Pets; supporting our local Barrie Humane Society at the Flying Monkeys Brewery for a fun Pilates movement class facilitated by Kelly Patterson McGrath, a Certified Pilates Teacher. Bring a Mat, bring your dog (kind and gentle ones!) and either a monetary donation or pet food for the shelter.
Of course, our local businesses will be open with arms for you to browse and shop at your leisure and then top off a great visit with a patio snack and bevy.
