Grey Bruce OPP say charges have been laid following a fatal collision in West Grey.
Police say on June 17 around 6:39 p.m., the OPP were joined by West Grey Police, West Grey Fire Department, and Grey County EMS in response to a two-vehicle collision involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle on Highway 6.
OPP say the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 24-year-old Bailey Durocher of Georgian Bluffs, was brought to the Durham Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The North Dufferin Baseball League Executive issued the following statement upon learning of the tragedy:
“The Executive of the North Dufferin Baseball League was saddened to hear of the tragic traffic accident that claimed the life of Bailey Durocher on June 17 at the age of 24.
“Bailey first played with the Collingwood Jays junior team in 2014. He later joined the Mansfield Cubs junior team in 2016. An all-round player and competitor, he had the most home runs and was named the most valuable player and most sportsmanlike player in the 2016 season. After a few seasons away he began playing with the Owen Sound Baysox this year in the senior division.
“Bailey was always friendly and a respected player who loved baseball.
“On behalf of the league, we extend our sincere condolences to his teammates, friends and family.”
OPP say they have charged a 62-year-old from Utopia with operation while impaired, operation while having a high blood alcohol concentration, and two counts of operation causing death.
Police say the accused was released with a future court date in Owen Sound.
OPP say they are continuing to investigate with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team.
