The Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey is returning to in-person events this year with its annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser.
The Women’s House says in addition to returning to in-person events, they will also be bringing the fundraiser to Port Elgin and Kincardine as well.
Women’s House Community and Fund Development Coordinator Michelle Lamont says walkers will be able to take pledges on May 28 in Kincardine for the event, with participants registering and starting at Ewyn Studios. Participants can also help raise awareness by attending the walk on May 29 at the Queen’s Bar and Grill in Port Elgin.
Registration and pledge drop-off starts at noon, with the walk starting at 1 p.m. for both locations.
The Women’s House says the proceeds from the event will go to support the organization.
The Women’s House says they are looking for community minded men who will walk a mile in a pair of two-inch red heels to bring awareness to the need to end gender-based violence.
“With this being May, being sexual assault awareness month, we like to hold the event kind of shine a light on that. The walk is for men to walk in a mile in her shoes as it were. We have supplied the two-inch red shoes and they are made in large sizes so they will fit men’s feet. Basically by walking they are showing their support towards ending gender based violence,” says Lamont.
