Bruce County Children’s Services is partnering up with Fanshaw and Georgian College to provide $80,000 in early childhood education bursaries.
The county says the bursaries to be provided to eligible students with funds from the August 2021 signing of the Early Childhood Workforce Funding Agreement by Canada and Ontario, supports efforts to retain and recruit a high-quality child care and early years workforce.
Twenty bursaries will be available to encourage students to enter the field, with eligible students potentially receiving up to a max of $4,000 in total bursaries.
Bruce County Manager of Children’s Services Tina Metcalfe says, the key objective of this partnership is to sustain, enhance, grow, and attract an increasingly diverse early childhood education workforce.
The bursaries will be distributed in the 2022-23 academic year, with the eligibility ending when students complete their early childhood education program.
Students will be eligible for a bursary if they demonstrate financial need, are a full-time domestic student entering their first year of the program at either Fanshaw of Georgian College, are in good academic standing, and have self-identified as having a Bruce County home address on their application.
“This bursary opportunity will help Bruce County students join the caring and dedicated child care and early years professionals across Bruce County,” says Metcalfe.
Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson adds early childhood educators are integral to the provision of high quality child care and early years programming for families in the county.
“We encourage all those interested in early childhood education to pursue this rewarding career in our beautiful and engaged communities,” says Jackson.
More details on the bursaries can be found on the county website.
