Contracts have been awarded by Owen Sound city council for a couple of infrastructure projects in the city.
City council approved a recommendation at its meeting on Monday to award a $3.89-million contract to MacDonnell Excavating Limited for the third phase of the East Bayshore Road (Grey Road 15) reconstruction project.
It was the lowest of three compliant bids received.
According to a city staff report, the project will include concrete curbs and gutter, paved shoulders, sidewalks, retaining wall, and the replacement/upgrade of the sanitary forcemain from Hobarts to 32nd Street East.
Owen Sound councillors heard Monday the project requires Grey County council approval as well, as it is being done in conjunction with the county’s reconstruction of Grey Road 15.
The city’s portion of the project cost is about $313,000 over budget, a staff report says.
Meantime, Owen Sound councillors also approved granting a $326,000 contract to Straightline Group Inc., for an upgrade of the Sydenham Crescent Sanitary Pump Station, located near the Mill Dam.
“It was identified as a priority for rehabilitation,” a report explains. “Construction will include conversion to a dual pump system with required upgrades to the electrical and mechanical components.”
The project has a projected $43,000 deficit at the cost of the contract, which was the lowest of three bids the city received.
