Owen Sound Police are partnering with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6 and the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) to host a free electronic data destruction event.
Police say the event will help residents protect themselves from fraud.
Police say as March is Fraud Prevention month, residents are invited to attend the event at the Owen Sound Legion on 1450 2nd Avenue West on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents can bring their unwanted electronic devices including:
-Laptops and computers
-Docking stations
-Computer parts like mother boards and hard drives
-Keyboards, mice, wires, and cables
-Gaming consoles
-ipods, ipads and mp3 players
-Stereo equipment
-Printers
-Fax machines
-Scanners and copiers
-Mobile phones, iphones, smart phones
-Tablets
-Phone systems
-CDs, DVDs and cards
-Servers
-Software
-Switches and routers
-Lab equipment
-Disk arrays
Police say these devices storing sensitive data will be securely destroyed or wiped clean.
Data storage devices will be destroyed on-site with the use of ERA’s shredding machine to prevent data from being recovered from old equipment.
