Hope Community Church has raised over $4,000 in support of their Mission Zimbabwe project.
Team Leader of the project Barry Mutrie says on March 5, they held their second annual “Beat the Winter Blahs” drive-thru, take-out supper, where over 250 meals were served.
The funds raised will go to support the children at the Village of Hope and Vimbainesu Children’s Home in Zimbabwe.
In a recent report from the Vimbainesu Children’s Home, it was described how the children were suffering from a lack of clean water and were getting wet during their rainy season as the thatched roofs of their homes had several holes. These combined situations resulted in serious health concerns for close to 50 children who live in Vimbainesu.
Mutrie says with an overall goal of $7,500 for the project, they are now reaching out to the community in an attempt to raise the needed funds.
“We are asking for donations, we are using the fact that we did the take-out supper as a way of promoting donations and we also have responsibilities of support for the Village of Hope,” says Mutrie.
He adds they will be organizing another fundraising BBQ event in the summer, with more details coming out next month.
