Community financial support is being requested for Hope Community Church’s Mission Zimbabwe Project.
Team Leader for the Hanover church’s compassionate aid project Barry Mutrie says in a release, a report from the Vimbainesu Children’s Home that Mission Zimbabwe received in January indicated two very serious concerns.
According to this report, the children were suffering from a lack of clean water and were getting wet during their rainy season as the thatched roofs of their homes had several holes. These combined situations resulted in serious health concerns for close to 50 children who live in Vimbainesu.
While Vimbainesu has a well, they lack a dependable pump to move the water to an elevated cistern that children could use to drink, maintain hygiene, and use on their vegetable fields that require water to be carried over pail by pail.
There is a need for immediate dependable water to be provided to the children and repairs to their thatches roofs, which have only recently become further damaged due to a storm, according to the release.
The goal for the program is to raise $7,500 to repair the roofs and allow for the installation of a solar pumping system to provide the needed water.
Financial support is being sent to Vimbainesu Children’s Home immediately out of the current funds of the church, but more support is needed and residents are being asked to consider making a donation towards the urgent need.
In addition to the need in Vimbainesu, Mutrie says they also support the Village of Hope, located just outside the country’s capital of Harare.
The church will be hosting a drive-through dinner on March 5 from 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
“With of course the Covid situation going on, we have started doing drive-through suppers,” says Mutrie. “We are holding a drive through take-out lasagna supper with caesar salad, garlic bread and a really excellent dessert. People can enjoy that and they can also support the children of Zimbabwe.”
Residents looking to make a financial donation can do so by dropping off a donation in an envelope at the Hope Community Church on 18th Avenue in the locked mailbox by writing Vimbainesu on it.
Residents can also donate by mailing cheques payable to “Mission Zimbabwe” at Box 345, Chesley, Ont. N0G 1L0. Cheques: Payable to “Mission Zimbabwe” with Vimbainesu in the memo line.
Residents can also e-transfer their donation to hopechurchhanover@gmail.com, and by adding a note saying it is for “Mission Zimbabwe-Vimbainesu.”
