Happy Valentine’s Day
There’s been a lot to love in the world of sports these days, including the just completed Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Ontario Tankard Presented by Bruce Power.
I think it’s fair to say the Tankard was, or will be, the biggest sporting event in Saugeen Shores in 2022.
However, that’s not to say it will be the ONLY significant activity, sporting or otherwise, in the community.
Looking not that far ahead, the Grey Bruce Celebrity Hockey Classic is scheduled for March 3rd and 4th.
Similar to other Classic events coordinated by Jackson Events, there will be a large contingent of NHL Alumni who will be present at the VIP Dinner at the Lakeshore Recreation on March 3rd and on the ice the following night at The Plex.
Among those expected to participate are two of the most prominent Toronto Maple Leaf alumni; Wendel Clark & Doug Gilmour.
I spoke to Doug Gilmour recently and he’s enthused to participate, citing previous Classics hosted by Eric Lindros, Brad May and Rick Vaive that have generated huge dollars for charity.
The Grey Bruce Celebrity Hockey Classic will be supporting Easter Seals, an organization that has assisted youngsters with physical disabilities succeed over a century of operation.
Ironically, while not disabled, Doug Gilmour won’t be on the ice at The Plex; his body, especially his knees, aren’t capable of enduring that kind of activity, even in an exhibition game like this.
But Doug Gilmour says he’s happy to coach, happy to participate and happy to help Easter Seals March 3rd and 4th in Port Elgin
Happy Valentine’s Day
