A popular fast food chain has opened the doors on a location in Owen Sound.
A spokesperson for Redberry Restaurants — the franchise operator — says the company officially opened a Burger King at 2125 16th Street East in Owen Sound on Tuesday morning. The new restaurant is located in the Heritage Grove plaza that houses several big-box retail stores including Winners, Michaels and PetSmart.
Redberry Restaurants Director of Marketing Sharron Fry says Owen Sound was identified as a preferred site for a new Burger King restaurant in March 2020. After months of planning with architects, the landlord and the city, construction commenced in October 2021.
Fry says Owen Sound was selected for the Redberry-owned and operated Burger King restaurant because it is the largest city in Grey Bruce with a vibrant business and residential community and it does not currently have one.
“There’s a loyal Burger King fan base that regularly visits us at our other locations … and we heard their request to bring Burger King to Owen Sound,” Fry says in an email.
There hasn’t been a Burger King in the Owen Sound area since 2005, when a previous location on the Sunset Strip closed.
