The 5th Annual Staff vs Student Charity Hockey game at CFB Borden is being held in support of the Angus Food Bank today.
Starting at 9 this morning, the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology & Engineering (CFSATE) will be hosting the game in the Andy Anderson Arena at the base.
The entrance fee to the hockey game is by donation – non-perishable food item or cash, with all proceeds going to the Angus Food Bank.
The hockey game will include a 50/50 draw, with proceeds also going to the Angus Food Bank, a ceremonial puck drop between the Staff Team Captain (16 Wing Commander) and Student Team Captain, an address to the spectators from the 16 Wing Commander, CFSATE Commandant, and staff from the Angus Food Bank, and finally, a “chuck a puck” contest where spectators can throw a foam puck from the stands, to the Barrie Colts Mascot “Charlie Horse” in center ice. First prize (based on the puck that is picked up from Charlie Horse) for this contest is a private box for 18 people at an upcoming Barrie Colts game.
Aaron Downey, Detroit Red Wings Alumni and Stanley Cup Champion, will be participating in the event.
The previous Staff vs Students Charity game in 2019 raised a total of 620lbs of food, in addition to $1445.90 for the Angus Food Bank. The estimated total value of the donated goods was $4045.90.
