A new electric vehicle charging station is being installed at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
This new charging station is part of the county’s commitment to a clean energy future and is the third to be installed at municipal facilities, with more planned for the future, according to a release.
Director of Museum and Cultural Services Cathy McGirr says, “electric vehicle drivers can enjoy all that the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre has to offer, while confidently recharging right here at the museum.”
Bruce County is working with other mid-western Ontario counties and cities to set up a 401 to Lake Huron Regional EV Charging Network plan, to improve the electric vehicle charging options for residents and visitors.
The county says since the first EV charger installation in 2018, over 7,000 kg of greenhouse gas emissions have been avoided, equaling the planting of 193 trees and them growing for 10 years.
Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson says pursuing clean energy opportunities will help our region move towards a more carbon neutral and environmentally sustainable future.
“There is so much to explore in Bruce County. Creating opportunities for visitors to recharge their electric vehicles at key sites of interest is a real game changer,” says Jackson.
Currently, the three EV stations are set up at the Administration Centre in Walkerton, the Peninsula Hub in Wiarton, and the Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
