The Huntsville Curling Club (HCC) has finished with renovations which were made possible thanks to a $150,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
In 2019, the club received the good news that it had received the grant – they had applied for it to help buy needed materials to make the building more sustainable in years to come. The grant was well-timed, as some of the new installations and upgrades will help improve air ventilation in the space as well.
“Physical activity is an important factor in supporting the physical and mental well-being of our community members. I was thrilled to see the Huntsville Curling Club receive a $150,000 investment from the province through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Capital grant,” says Norm Miller, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “The funding has allowed the Huntsville Curling Club to facilitate many important upgrades to ventilation, air conditioning and heating units as well as continue to deliver quality programing for leagues and teams and enhance youth, school and seniors’ programs.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will help HCC with operational energy cost savings, and improved air quality that will help to keep the community safe during these difficult times. The grant bought new rink heaters, a dehumidifier, lounge heating, improved ventilation and AC units, as well as on-demand hot water and thermal glass for viewing windows. The grant will enable the HCC to continue with its structured programs including leagues, youth and school programs; and Learn to Curl and 55+ programs. In conjunction with the HVAC project, a team of HCC volunteers renovated the lounge, bar, and office giving the Club a much-needed upgrade.
“This is another welcomed grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, who have participated in many Huntsville projects over the years,” adds Karin Terziano, Huntsville Mayor. “The contribution of $150,000 has allowed the necessary upgrades to the Curling Club that will ensure the continuation of a great sport. Congratulations to all those at the Curling Club that continue to work so hard to keep the club strong and viable.”
The project will enable a healthy, comfortable environment with air filtration that will remove dust and moisture particles that conduct viruses to less than one micron; which is almost hospital quality air.
“This project, through the generous funding of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the dedication of many volunteers has allowed us to create an energy efficient, sustainable curling and clubhouse environment. This will support the needs of our community for the next several decades,” said Beth Goodhew, President of Huntsville Curling Club.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. Last year, nearly $112M was invested into 1,384 community projects and partnerships to build healthy and vibrant communities and strengthen the impact of Ontario’s non-profit sector. In 2020/21, OTF supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
