The Meaford Hospital Foundation has been given a $1-million donation, the largest single gift it’s ever received.
Meaford Hospital Foundation CEO Rob Peacock says in a statement the contribution from the Lewitt family will be used for the Grey Bruce Health Services Meaford Hospital’s new cataract surgery suite, as well as for new x-ray machines and cardiac monitors in the emergency department.
The new cataract surgery suite at the Meaford Hospital will include a state-of-the-art microscope with software that will enable physicians to replace the lens with one that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
It will allow patients to have their cataract removed and then go without glasses following the procedure, a statement from the foundation explains.
The new cataract surgery suite is scheduled to open in 2022.
“The new suite, in addition to the cataract surgeries already offered in Owen Sound, will effectively reduce wait times across the region,” a release from the Meaford Hospital Foundation explains.
Meanwhile, the $1-million donation from the Lewitt family will also allow for the purchase of x-ray units which have lower radiation doses and higher image quality.
The four new cardiac monitors in the emergency department will help staff and physicians accurately diagnose heart issues, and begin the best course of treatment as soon as possible.
“This remarkable gift will make such a difference to the many aspects of medical care at the Meaford Hospital, and will inspire and benefit our staff and our community” says Dr. Nathalie Sauriol, Chief of Staff at the Meaford Hospital in a statement.
The Meaford Hospital Foundation works with all system partners, patients, donors, Municipalities, community members and other stakeholders in supporting our health care system.
