Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) says 14 new physicians and one midwife have moved to work in the Grey Bruce area in the past year.
They were celebrated this past weekend with an event.
The hospital says in a release, the new group of physicians includes specialists in Dentistry, Family Practice, Geriatrics, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pathology and Psychiatry (adult, and child and adolescent).
They say these physicians will be working throughout the Grey Bruce region. Last year nine physicians moved to the area.
Hospital President and CEO Gary Sims says in a statement, “This year’s incoming group of medical professionals is the largest that we’ve seen in many years,” adding, “We are also very pleased to see that five of the new physicians have local roots, and have returned home to practice.”
The hospital says the market for attracting physicians is extremely competitive, and it works with many community and municipal partners to recruit physicians to the area. The release notes, recruitment for Anesthesiologists is particularly challenging, with a number of vacancies across the country. It says a recent posting for a new orthopedic surgeon has attracted a number of applicants, and GBHS says it hopes to have a new surgeon in place in the coming months.
Sims says, “The number of medical professionals who have chosen this area in the past year demonstrates that Grey Bruce is a great place to live and work, and we hope this trend continues.”
At the annual event, the hospital, which has locations throughout Grey Bruce, also welcomed two new Family Medicine Residents from McMaster University.
