The Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Liberals have officially announced their candidate for the upcoming federal election.
A release notes, the Federal Liberal Association has named Anne Marie Watson of West Grey as the candidate for the riding.
Watson was the former president of the Grey County Federation of Agriculture and long-time non-for-profit sector professional. She emphasizes economic responsibility and managing finances as important issues to the long-term success of the riding.
Watson says, “both are critical to a successful non-profit, business, home, and to the entire country. It is important to support families and small business in times of crisis, but is also important to strive towards economic growth and responsibility and to create the environment for business to thrive.”
Watson graduated the University of Guelph with a degree in Political Science.
After moving to their dairy farm in West Grey along with her husband and their two children in 1997, she also served as a director, officer and president, while sitting on several committees.
Watson has also worked in the not-for-profit sector for 25-years, including the Canadian Red Cross, The Women’s Centre and the Canadian Cancer Society in Owen Sound. She assumed the role as Executive Director for the Durham Hospital Foundation in 2014, and is the lead on Durham/West Grey physician recruitment.
Among volunteering at other organizations, Watson, according to the release, believes the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound riding deserves a representative who lives, works and plays in the riding. One who buys locally and cares about its residents.
“I am committed to bringing the same passion to this position that I have brought to everything I’ve ever done,” Watson adds. “The people of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound are important, and they deserve the best possible representation to ensure their voices are heard in Ottawa.”
Other candidates confirmed in the riding thus far are Incumbent Conservative MP Alex Ruff, Anna-Marie Fosbrooke for the People’s Party and Libertarian Dan Little. The New Democrats and Greens have yet to confirm candidates.
