Owen Sound Attack overage defenceman Carter Robertson has signed his first professional hockey contract to play for the Norfolk Admirals in the East Coast Hockey League.
“I am super excited to have signed my first pro deal” said Robertson. “I want to thank everyone that has been a part of my career to this point, especially my family.”
“This is just a starting point” added Carter. “I still have lots to prove and hopefully more opportunities to come.”
More opportunities are in fact coming for Robertson, as has received an invite to the Carolina Hurricanes rookie camp that begins September 13th. Carter hopes this opportunity will put him on Carolina’s radar and parlay into another contract with either the Hurricanes or their American Hockey League affiliate the Chicago Wolves.
“I was pumped to hear I had a chance to attend an NHL camp with Carolina” said Robertson. “I’m very motivated to prove to everyone that I have what it takes to play at the next level.”
The Attack acquired Robertson prior to the start of the 2018-19 season from the Ottawa 67’s. Over two seasons with the Attack he became a physical force on the back-end adding timely offence when called upon. In four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, the native of Holland Landing, Ontario, had 19 goals, and 64 assists in 229 regular season games, while adding another four assists in 12 playoff games.
“I don’t think anyone is surprised that Carter is turning pro” said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “He has really developed into a pro type defenceman that can skate and play a physical game at the same time adding to the offence. We look forward to seeing his development as he gets his professional career underway.”
