Grey County council is looking at making adjustments to speeds limits along a number of roads.
Some of the speed change proposals were discussed at a recent county council meeting.
They include: reducing the 80 kilometre an hour limit down to 50 on Grey Road 13 Kimberly, dropping it from 70 km/h to 40 hm/h for north and south intersections on Grey Roads 7 and 30 and going down to 50 km/h on Grey Road 17B from West Street to Somer Street.
West Street to Grey Road 17 would also see a change, being set at 70 km/h, with a limit of 60 along Grey Road 17 and 17B to Highway 6 and 10.
County CAO Kim Wingrove notes a by-law will return to council on Aug. 12 for these adjustments to be passed.
Should council pass it, various other road speed adjustments would be in place between Grey Road 1 and 170, all set between 40 and 80 kilometres an hour.
Wingrove says, “we recognize, council and staff, our communities continue to grow and to change. What might have been appropriate in the past, may not be appropriate now and we need to continuously look carefully at all of those factors, safety being paramount, and making sure that we’ve got things set up appropriately to protect the public safety and ensure the county road system operates as efficiently and effectively as it can.”
In addition, Meaford council passed a by-law at a meeting on July 26 for the maximum speed on Miller Street from Owen Street to Pearson Street, to be set at 40 kilometres and hour. The speed on Ridge Road from Highway 26 to Pearson Street is now also at 40 kilometres an hour, and the same for Pearson Street, from Ridge Road to Nelson Street West.
