Kincardine council has directed staff to prepare a report on financing options for and tendering of the construction of a new Whitney Crawford Community Centre in Tiverton, for the first council meeting in September;
In addition staff has been asked to utilize the professional services of Westinghouse Electric Canada (formerly NA Engineering) as they were involved in preparing the original tender ready documents and drawings.
Deputy Mayor Randy Roppel presented a Notice of Motion on the issue on June 7th which came up for discussion at the July 5th meeting.
It will come back to the council table in September with the financial reports.
Kincardine councillor Dorne Fitzsimmons says trying to get some movement on rebuilding the community centre in Tiverton is “well into its second decade” and he suspects people, which were unidentified, are “starting to make excuses not to go ahead with the project.”
He suggests this kind of attitude would not be tolerated if it happened in any other part of the municipality.
Just over a year ago, councillors were told such a project could cost over 6-million-dollars.
Randy Roppel says the project is long overdue.
The Whitney Crawford Community Centre was built in 1956.
