Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

It’s funny the hockey circles that get travelled
Last week, Greg Walters was named as the Head Coach of the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League.
More than 30 years ago, Greg Walters was a 90 point centreman for Brian Kilrea and the Ottawa 67’s.
I remember this because I interviewed him after a 67’s win over the Platers at the Bayshore in what was Owen Sound’s first season in the OHL, 1989-90
I distinctly remember asking him to describe what it was like to play for Brian Kilrea.
His answer; ‘ Brian Kilrea is a GREAT coach………when you’re winning. ”
A little more than a decade later, Greg Walters was back in the OHL, working in tandem with former Plater Jeff Perry as coach of the Sarnia Sting.
Still later, Greg Walters was at Georgetown with the Junior A Raiders and was held in high regard by the Attack brass as he assisted in the development of Attack prospects like Michael McNiven and Luke Beamish before they made the jump to the OHL.
Now after 2 years at Oshawa with the Generals where he posted 75 wins and moulded the Generals into legitimate contenders to host the Memorial Cup that wasn’t, Greg Walters is back at the Bayshore, back in Owen Sound.
And it will be interesting to see if he has the same kind of success with the Attack that Brian Kilrea had at Ottawa and that Greg Walters had during his 2 years at Oshawa.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
