A long term care home in Collingwood, run by the County of Simcoe, has been ordered to stop accepting new admissions because provincial inspectors say there is a risk of harm to residents’ health or well being.
The provincial ministry of long-term care issued the rare order for Sunset Manor after a series of inspections dating back to 2019 which it says show a history of non compliance with government regulations.
Some of the inspections cite incidents of alleged neglect or abuse, that proper skin and wound care was not offered, and that there were problems with nutrition and hydration.
The report also says staff members were afraid of reprisals if they spoke with ministry inspectors.
The county has been ordered to hire a manager for the home to ensure compliance orders are implemented.
