Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

For a second consecutive year, the Major Series Lacrosse season and the Mann Cup have been cancelled.
The formal announcement was made Tuesday morning by the the Ontario Major League, the Western Lacrosse Association and Lacrosse Canada.
Those organizations had planned to operate a condensed season, suggested to be 10 games in length, beginning in July.
However, after ongoing discussion and consultation with both government and health officials, the difficult decision to cancel again was announced.
Here in Owen Sound, we were eagerly anticipating two lacrosse events.
First, Major Lacrosse officials and teams in Ontario had previously & formally welcomed an Owen Sound entry which was the transplanted Brampton Excelsiors franchise.
There was great anticipation among the lacrosse community that a Major franchise would operate alongside a Senior, Junior B, Minor and field program making the Scenic City a true hot spot for the sport.
And second, a small but diligent group of Brampton diehards had managed to delay and temporarily block the stated transfer of the Excelsiors to Owen Sound and the belief, or hope, was that the start of the Major season would bring that dispute to an obvious conclusion.
However, as of this moment there will be no Major Series Lacrosse in Ontario, no Mann Cup to determine a Canadian Champion and the waiting continues for a 3rd, and hopefully final, announcement that Owen Sound will be the home to a Major Lacrosse franchise.
Have a great weekend.
