South Bruce Peninsula is another step closer to having year-round ambulance service.
The unit will be based out of Sauble Beach.
At the May 6th Bruce County Paramedic Services Committee meeting, it was agreed staff would continue talks with the municipality regarding the lease for a new ambulance service space.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson indicates they’ve been lobbying for years to have the ambulance closer than Port Elgin.
Jackson says Paramedic Services has been providing ambulance coverage in Sauble Beach during the summer and early fall since June 2020.
The deal is to provide 12-hour service a day, 365 days a year.
Next comes the building of a permanent site next to the Sauble fire hall.
Jackson says they will go ahead with drawings and costing of the facility, now that the county has committed in writing to move ahead.
The idea is the town will pay the cost of the build and then lease the space back to Bruce County.
In a prepared report, the estimated rental will be $2,900 a month.
There is no cost available yet connected to the build.
Meanwhile, Paramedic Services will continue to utilize the County’s Emergency Management Trailer for the summer and early fall of 2021.
