A former chief of Saugeen First Nation, has been appointed as a permanent part-time member of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
Randall Kahgee will hold the post for 5-years.
The CNSC, in a release earlier this year, said Kahgee is a senior counsel who specializes in Indigenous rights law with an emphasis on community-based processes and government-to-government negotiations.
The release goes on to say, Kahgee’s extensive experience will be a major asset in helping the Commission make independent, fair and transparent decisions on the licensing of nuclear-related activities.
He was chief of Saugeen First Nation for 4 consecutive terms, from June 2006 to June 2014.
Members of the Commission are independent of political, governmental, special interest groups and industry influences, and have committed to the highest ethical and conflict-of-interest standards.
