Grace Lambe, owner of Grandma Lambe’s orchard in Meaford has passed away.
Grandma Lambe’s is a well loved staple in the community and is popular for its home baked apple pies.
An obituary from Ferguson Funeral Homes says Grace Lambe passed away peacefully in her own home with her family by her side on Monday. She was in her 93rd year.
Her obituary says, “Grace was the matriarch and ‘Grandma Lambe’ of the family business. She combined her natural talents and resourcefulness with her ability to make every person around her feel special into a very successful business.”
The business now known as Grandma Lambe’s was started in the early 1940s by Mabel Lambe, who according to Grandma Lambe’s website, started selling home-grown apples from her property on Highway 26.
It became successful, and that success was boosted by Grace, Mabel’s daughter in law who added the now beloved, home baked apple pies to the business, which now has two locations, one in Meaford and one in Chatsworth.
Even into her 90s, Grace Lambe continued to oversee the orchard and business operation and could reportedly be found at Grandma Lambe’s in Meaford just about every day of the year.
A private memorial will be held for immediate family and a celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.
