Today, the Town of Wasaga Beach released a list of employees who earned $100,000 or more during 2020.
Under the Ontario Ministry of Finance’s Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, organizations that receive funding from the Province of Ontario are required to disclose the names, positions, salaries, and taxable benefits of employees who earn $100,000 or more in a calendar year. This information is often referred to as the provincial Sunshine List.
For 2020, the town submitted the names of 37 employees compared to 36 in 2019. There are 20 firefighters on the list, with the remaining names coming from the rest of the organization.
Factors contributing to the list include the payout of accumulated vacation and overtime. Another factor affecting the number of employees on the list is the Town of Wasaga Beach pays its employees based on a 40-hour workweek compared to a 37.5 or 35-hour workweek that a number of comparable municipalities use.
