A third Algoma ship has arrived in the Owen Sound Harbour today.
This comes after Coast Guard’s Icebreaker, the CCGS Griffon conducted icebreaking operations in the harbour on Monday. The Griffon has now moved on to Southern Georgian Bay, Collingwood, Huronia West and Midland.
The Algoma Sault arrived from Detroit this morning. It joins two other Algoma ships: the Algoma Innovator and the Algoma Compass.
The Sault is a 740 foot long (225 metres) Equinox Class Self Discharging Bulk Carrier that was built in 2017.
The Algoma Central Corporation gave the ship its name in honour of the company’s close ties with the port city of Sault Ste. Marie.
