The action of a couple of Saugeen Shores council members has not gone unnoticed by a member of the Port Elgin Beach Preservers group.
A letter on the matter is making the rounds.
Bayshore Broadcasting News received a copy of the letter, written by Patricia Corrigan-Frank.
In the letter Corrigan-Frank says she was “shocked at Deputy Mayor (Don) Matheson’s and Councillor Dave Myette’s confrontational attitude when speaking to Mr. (Paul) Lewko at Monday Night’s Council Meeting.”
Lewko was speaking from a detailed presentation, about the CCV and its potential impact on parking at the Port Elgin main beach area.
Quoting the letter, “Deputy Mayor Matheson asked Mr. Lewko ‘where did you come up with the statement that if you don’t like it, go somewhere else?’ To be clear, these were CAO (Dave) Smith’s exact words at the Waterfront Revitalization Ad Hoc Committee meeting on September 11, 2019, ‘If you want a quiet beach don’t go to the Port Elgin Main Beach.'”
“Councillor Myette suggested that Mr. Lewko’s real objective was to stop this development until the election year (2022).”
Corrigan-Frank says the Beach Preservers know the development is moving ahead and their hope is to make sure it’s done correctly.
Saugeen Shores Director of Protective Services Phil Eagleson says he has met with the group and says the town is aware of their conccerns and “will continue to work with the Beach Preservers as the work progresses.
