Brockton has passed its 2021 budget.
The total levy is $9.8-million and the tax rate increase is 1.61 per cent.
“Brockton Council and staff were committed to ensuring sustainability for operations while keeping the tax rate increase as low as possible in recognition of the economic difficulties faced by many residents and businesses as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic,” a release from the municipality explains.
Some highlights from the 2021 Municipal Budget include:
• $200,000.00 transferred to a reserve fund to assist with long-term planning for a new arena facility
• $100,000.00 to develop the Durham Street Park in Walkerton to support downtown businesses
• $11,250.00 to broadcast Council meetings and accommodate a gradual return to in-person meetings
• $26,000.00 savings from early repayment of debt associated with the Brockton Child Care Centre
• $1.9 million reconstruction of Concession 10 – Elmwood
• $1.4 million Completion of the Chepstow Bridge Project
• $750,000 rehabilitation of the D.S. Weiss memorial Bridge (former Brant Township)
• $910,000 for the reconstruction of George Street in Walkerton
• $475,000 In upgraded Roads Equipment
• $25,000.00 for a Strategic Action Plan to be initiated immediately
• $50,000.00 for an updated Master Recreation and Leisure Services Plan
• Committed to starting Phase 2 of the East Ridge Business Park in 2021
