Bruce County staff are in the midst of making public, minutes of meetings that were initially held behind closed doors and were called on it.
A closed meeting investigator’s report indicates that seven meetings dating back to 2016 should not have been held in-camera, in regards to the issue surrounding the former Anglican Church Rectory in Southampton.
The county owns the land and wants to demolish the manse however, a group called the Southampton Cultural Heritage Conservancy challenged the plan and the closed meetings.
Staff has been going through the minutes and say, although there will be some redactions, the minutes will be released later this year.
Most councillors, such as Northern Bruce Peninsula Mayor Milt McIver, said the whole process was a good learning experience.
However, councillor and Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody diagrees thinks the whole process has been a money and time-waster.
Peabody calls the issue a ” total schmozzle,” and called again for a mediated settlement over the manse and its future.
The Bruce County Executive Committee accepted the report from staff, who indicated a possible final report could be coming in March.
