Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
Last week, Federal Justice Minister and Attorney General David Lametti introduced Bill C-13, called “An Act to amend the Criminal Code (single event sport betting) ” in the House of Commons.
The proposed changes would give provincial governments, and territories, the ability to offer single-event sport betting products as opposed to the ” parlay ” system that currently exists, exemplified by ProLine here in Ontario.
Canadians would have the opportunity to wager in a regulated landscape, either online or in physical facilities like Rama or Fallsview, hopefully Hanover too.
The exception to the proposed bill is horse racing, as the federal government will maintain regulation of pari-mutuel betting, so it appears almost everyone is appeased.
– The various governments will most certainly have a much needed influx of cash.
– The initial fears of the horse racing industry will be mollified.
& the betting public, including this reporter, will also be happy.
Why will I be happy ?
Well let me use the NFL as my example.
Normally, I avoid ProLine, but in the restricted world of COVID-19, free-time & boredom led me, forced me, to get involved with Point Spread.
Seemingly every week, I made 2 football picks and every week, seemingly without fail, one pick comes through while the other pick chokes, meaning I lose because I didn’t get the parlay.
With single bet sports wagering, I’ll still likely lose money, I know this, but I think I’ll be much happier on an average basis with a win here and there.
