Updated designs and plans for the Port Elgin waterfront development Cedar Crescent Village will be presented to Saugeen Shores Committee of the Whole Monday (Nov 9).
The presentation includes a timeline for work on the project which projects design development to continue through December, then possible site work starting in March 2021. The aim is to fully complete the project by May 2022.
Monday’s report outlines the presentation is based on consultation with the community. The design images are not technical, but rather artist rendered layouts to give councillors an idea of the proposed uses of land including size and overall character.
A staff report says this step of the project approval process is a requirement of the land lease. Staff say it’s a ‘check-in’ to make sure the development is supported before significant amounts of time and money are invested in it.
Final technical designs are scheduled to be presented to Council later on, in January 2021.
The proposed Cedar Crescent Village Development is a lease agreement between the developer and the Town of Saugeen Shores. The Town outlined a desire for economic development in its 2013 Waterfront Master Plan saying, “Private and public development partnerships are a viable means to build and fund development projects worthy of inclusion in our high use and tourist waterfront park areas.”
The plan also includes a main goal to, “Facilitate waterfront business/commercial opportunities consistent with look and feel of area. These businesses could include year round four-season retail, food and beverage, outfitters, etc.”
The design drawings include a volleyball court, boater store, restaurant, marketplace, cafe, skating pad, ice cream vendor, kids play area, a covered outdoor seating area, and other features. You can see the plan HERE.
