Nominations are open in Grey Bruce for the annual YMCA Peace Medal.
The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce says participation, empathy, advocacy, community and empowerment are among the values it is looking for in the next recipient of the award.
YMCAs across Canada celebrate Peace Week from Nov. 14-21, to reflect on the peace-building work that happens all year in our communities.
“More than the absence of violence and conflict, peace is the ongoing work of building and maintaining conditions of fairness, inclusion, empathy, security, and respect for diversity,” a statement from the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce explains.
In 2019, local theatre group Sheatre was award the YMCA Peace Medal in Grey Bruce. It was recognized for inspiring transformative learning and change through interactive theatre, while bringing awareness of social issues to allow disenfranchised children and adults to be heard and feel included in society.
Grey Bruce residents can submit a nomination form for the YMCA Peace Medal until Oct. 23.
