Former Barrie Liberal MP and MPP Aileen Carroll has died.
She served as a member of the House of Commons from 1997 to 2006–representing the ridings of Barrie—Simcoe—Bradford and Barrie.
Carroll also served in the cabinet of Prime Minister Paul Martin as Minister for International Cooperation.
Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman said “Aileen accomplished many firsts – the first Federal Cabinet Minister from Barrie and serving at all three levels of government including both Provincial and Federal cabinet.”
He added, “Aileen was a fiery and very funny person and an inspiration to many. We’ve lost one of our most prominent citizens.”
Premier Doug Ford also expressed his condolences.
Aileen Carroll was 75 years old.
