There is no fare increase and no change in the operating schedule of the Chi Cheemaun for this year’s sailing season between Tobermory and South Bay Mouth.
The Owen Sound Transportation Company imposed a 10 per cent fare hike in mid season last year.
So General Manager Susan Schrempf tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there is no need for an increase this season.
However Schrempf says they will closely monitor traffic levels and fuel prices throughout the season.
She notes a significant drop off in traffic or increase in fuel prices could result an fare increase in the summer.
Stats from the last sailing season showed a 7.5 per cent decline in passengers from 2007.
Schrempf says in an effort to encourage more people to ride the ferry they are continuing a program that offers a 10 per cent discount in fares for owners of small fuel efficient vehicles.
