Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The National Hockey League Entry Draft remains a topic of much discussion and debate.
When to stage it ? How to determine the order of selection ?
Meanwhile, with very little fanfare, the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League conducted their annual draft last Saturday.
The Knights of Meaford had the 3 pick overall and selected Zack Turpin of the Fresno Monsters.
The Monsters are based in Fresno, California and play in the Western States Hockey League
And while he played in California, Turpin is Canadian, hailing from British Columbia.
I can't tell you a thing about the Monsters or the league, but the stats page indicates Turpin, who is a 1999 birth, put up some BIG numbers last year scoring 46 goals in 44 games and finishing with 92 points.
There might be an element of mystery pertaining to Zack Turpin for the Knights of Meaford.
Less mysterious for new Knights coach Corey Bricknell are the 3 players Meaford selected from the French River Rapids who play out of Noelville
Cooper Bowman, Esa Patton & Kyle Avery all come from the Rapids who Bricknell coached a year ago
And also of note, the Knights drafted Ethan Pegg from the Barrie Colt Midgets & Collingwood native Jaeden French who played last year for the Grey Bruce Highlanders
The Greater Metro Junior Hockey League has informed their clubs they will not commence next season before October 1st.
We hope that transpires, with spectators allowed, so we can all get a look at the newest Knights of Meaford.
