With the Owen Sound Attack playing two road games against West Division teams this week, I wanted to talk about the Attack yesterday prior to the game at Flint, rather than today before the game at Windsor.
However, the Game 7 matchup at Mount Forest between the Patriots and the Mitchell Hawks in the PJHL Pollock Division last night was more pertinent, and truthfully more compelling.
Today, let's talk about the Attack.
It's a pretty safe bet that Owen Sound will finish 7th in the Western Conference.
Yes, mathematics tells me they could finish higher if both Guelph & Windsor stumble;.... but those clubs would have to stumble big time.
And mathematically, Owen Sound could also be bypassed by Erie and Sault Ste Marie and finish out of the playoffs,....but I don't see that as a reality.
What I see most clearly is the Attack finishing 7th and facing the # 2 seed in the opening round of the playoff; I'll lay money on Saginaw as the first round opponent.
All of this could change.
With 3 head-to-head games left with London, Owen Sound could upend the Knights, the team I called to win the Western Conference in the OHL Poll last September, which would significantly aid the Kitchener Rangers, Saginaw & Flint in the process.
But what really needs to change is Owen Sound's performance.
True, going into the game last night at Flint, the Attack had points in 3 straight games...but
The win over Erie was narrow
The win at Hamilton was exciting...but sloppy
And the shootout loss to Kitchener was discouraging.
So, while the Attack haven't clinched a playoff spot, I say they will, but if the screws don't get tightened, the post season for Owen Sound might be extremely short regardless of who they line up with.
