Is there anything better at this time of the year than a midweek Game 7 in a playoff hockey series in a relatively small community ?
We've already had one in the WOAA Senior Hockey Playoffs as 1st place Ripley survived a Game 7 on home ice beating the Durham Thundercats 8-3 on February 25th to advance to the " AA " Semifinals.
Of note, after the Thundercat scare, the Wolves have quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead in their semifinal against Minto.
Meanwhile tonight, just down Highway 6 in Mount Forest, there's a Game 7 in the PJHL Pollock Division Semifinals.
The Mitchell Hawks will be in Mount Forest tonight to face the Patriots in the deciding game of their back & forth best of 7.
Somewhat expected, after a first round bye, Mount Forest scored a 5-2 win in the opener February 19th on home ice.
However Mitchell, who had come off a 4 game sweep of Hanover, responded with back to back wins including a narrow 1-0 verdict February 23rd in Mount Forest.
The Patriots evened the series again winning Game 4 at Mitchell
And remarkably, the road team followed with victories in Games 5 & 6 to set the stage for the deicing contest tonight.
The road team has won the last 4 games in the series.
Obviously, Mitchell wants that trend to continue.
Just as obvious, the Patriots want to end the trend and end the series.
Regardless, the winner tonight advances to the Pollock Division Championship Series against Wingham and the question remains, is there anything better than a midweek Game 7 in a playoff hockey series in a relatively small community ?
