Buzz Words

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

There's all kinds of buzz words out there that deal with choice, commitment, priorities & time management.

A good study in all of those aspects came to light last week when I was speaking with Matthew Weiler.

A resident of Hepworth, Weiler, along with Owen Rahn of Durham and Cargill's Jackson Pegelo, are members of the Softball Canada entry that will depart in the next week for the WBSC World Under 18 Men's Softball Championship Tournament in New Zealand.

Weiler, Rahn & Pegelo were part of the Gold Medal Canadian team in Guatemala who beat Mexico 4-1 to take the America's Championship and thus qualify for the World Tournament which begins February 22nd.

Between Guatemala & Palmerston, New Zealand, Matthew Weiler has been going to high school, playing hockey for the Mount Forest Patriots and prepping for the Worlds by working out at Hepworth Central Public School among other activities- he's been busy.

Thus I was somewhat surprised, and suitably impressed, when Weiler informed me that both he & Rahn are stepping away from the Patriots in the short term.

That decision couldn't have been easy, since after an almost year long chase in the PJHL Pollock Division, Mount Forest finally climbed to the top of the standings and are the odds on favorites to be 4-peat champions of the division.

Still, Mathew Weiler believes there's many more hockey nights ahead and most of all he understands precious few athletes in Canada get to represent their country in a World Championship like the 2020 WBSC Under 18 event later this month in New Zealand.

I'm Fred Wallace
