Bench Talk / Off The Wire

MakeUp Night

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

It's a hockey night in Owen Sound with the Attack scheduled to host the Oshawa Generals in an Ontario Hockey League makeup game at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.

Originally, the game was scheduled for Saturday night, but weather conditions for the day were projected to be rugged, and the forecast was quite accurate, thus for the safety of all involved the OHL postponed the game and shuffled it to this evening.

It will be interesting to see what this deviation both teams.

The Generals played last night, a challenging divisional matchup against the Ottawa 67's who are the # 1 team in the Kia CHL rankings and lost 5-3

So how does that translate for the Generals tonight ?

Meanwhile, did the events of Saturday interrupt a decent roll for the Owen Sound Attack, or was it somewhat of a blessing ?

There's all kinds of behavioural scientists out there, real and wannabes, who will tell you that a disruption in process is almost always a negative, and the Attack were coming off two thorough 4-1 victories over Barrie & Guelph- teams they should beat at this point of the season, and teams they did beat.

Perhaps the alteration will benefit the Attack as they didn't have to play a home game Saturday night after a traditional road game the night before in Guelph-  ( & you know how I feel about ' always-on-a-Friday ' at Guelph while the Storm come here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, half the time not in prime time.)

But I digress......

Here again, Oshawa playing Owen Sound on a Monday night rather than a Saturday night has to slightly cut into home ice advantage for the Attack.

It's a school night.

It's a work week.

It's somewhat short notice.

The Attendance tonight won't be comparable to a typical Saturday, thus the atmosphere in the building will be less boisterous and I'm fairly certain there's a reciprocal impact on the Attack performance in front of a smaller crowd than the usual Saturday throng.

We'll see

Tonight at 7, the Attack host Oshawa
