Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
It's early December, the very heart of hockey season at every level.
Among those in action tonight are the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League.
The Attack snapped a 7 game losing streak last Saturday night with a 5-4 overtime win over Saginaw, and tonight the Attack take a 2 game win streak into London against their divisional foes the Knights.
Wins are positive, and overtime wins are exciting, but it will be interesting to see if the pair of OT wins over Saginaw and Niagara equate to a dramatic upswing in fortunes.
In some individual cases, there's been significant progress, but before I proclaim a bright horizon for those players, or this team, which has looked fragile giving up 2 goal late leads in their two victories, I want to examine how well they perform tonight, on the road, against what most consider is, or will be, the best team on the Ontario Hockey League circuit.
And if the Attack are on the upswing, then conversely, are the Toronto Maple Leafs on the downward trend ?
Yes, the Leafs are only on a mild 2 game losing streak, yet they are into a stretch where 5 of their next 6 are on the road.
Toronto hits this sequence of games having been blown out in the final 10 minutes at Philadelphia and then surrendering a key shorthanded goal at home in a loss to Colorado.
Are the Attack on the rise ?
Are the Leafs on the decline ?
That's the beauty of a weekend of hockey in December.
