Bench Talk / Off The Wire

Thursday Knight

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The Knights of Meaford are coming home, back at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre for the first time in 12 days and for just the 4th time on the season when they entertain the Ville Marie Pirates tonight.

The Knights started the 2019-20 campaign with 4 straight road games. They came home, be it ever so briefly, and head into tonight's game, which is about 1/3 of the way through their regular season, having played just 3 times at home with 9 of 12 on the road.

Through the top heavy schedule of road games, Meaford has done decently, sitting a game over .500 at 6 & 5.

In the 12 team North Division, the Knights are 11th, which isn't great, but it's more of a testament to their schedule than their performance.

Meaford has played 9 less games than division leading New Tecumseth, and 4 less than tonight's visitors from Ville Marie.

The Knights hope home ice will be an advantage but they're not in against a soft touch tonight.

Ville Marie and the Bradford Bulls are battling for 2nd in the North standings and the Pirates have won 4 in a row, including a victory over the front running New Tecumseth Civics.

By comparison, the Knights have lost 3 of their last 4, all of which took place on consecutive days last week when the schedule maker jolted them with 4 road games in 4 nights.

For that reason, the Knights will be happy to be back at home, and much happier if they knock off Ville Marie tonight

Game time is 7:30 at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre.
