Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
A traditional issue for sports clubs in our region continues to pop up.
For years I've heard from the Canadian Tiremen, the Selects, the Greys, Grey Motors United, Minor soccer, Track & Field, Ringette, Rugby, etc, that sports teams from outside our region aren't always keen on travelling to Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound to play & compete.
Of course, the debacle last year when the Brooklin Merchants showed up with just 4 runners to play the Senior NorthStars in lacrosse was a staggering example of this phenomena.
The latest example comes from, believe it or not, the world of Senior Citizens.
The 2019 District 27 55+ Regional Senior Games will be hosted in Grey & Bruce on Wednesday August 14th.
Already, more than 400 participants have qualified and confirmed their attendance for one of more than 50 events which will be hosted in 7 towns and municipalities in our region.
However, the organizers have noted that a number of qualifiers from outlying areas of Ontario, primarily Western Ontario, are electing to pass on the Games in our region and thus some vacancies exist.
The two most prominent competitions that now have opportunities for others to participate in are Pickle Ball and, cards; euchre or bid euchre.
If you would like to make the ( grueling ) trip to Cargill, Chepstow, Chesley, Hanover, Mildmay, Paisley & Walkerton and fill a vacancy in one of the competitions, or if you'd like more information, simply contact Dale Steinhoff at 519-353-7202 or contact your Municipal Recreation Office.
Once again, the District 27 55+ Regional Senior Games will be hosted in Grey-Bruce on Wednesday August 14th.
