Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
Is tonight the night that Owen Sound Grey Motors United FINALLY plays their home opener in the Kitchener & District Soccer League ?
Historically, Grey Motors United has always had a surplus of road games to start the season no matter what league they've been entered in.
There were two factors for this;
1) a later start in the calendar for games at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex in Owen Sound gave the fields the opportunity to thaw, dry out and be primed for competitive soccer.
and 2) Owen Sound has a reputation in soccer for showing up regardless of how the season is unfolding and that doesn't apply to every soccer operation they've encountered.
This year was fairly similar with Grey Motors scheduled to be on the road for 6 of their first 8 matches.
However, two home games set for May 31st against Listowel and June 14th against First Serbia were cancelled either due to weather or a drainage issue with dampness on the playing field.
You might get the impression that the Owen Sound side is being followed by a black cloud.
Witness last week when Owen Sound made the trip to Stratford, commenced playing and then had the game halted 6 minutes into the affair due to lightning
Which brings us tonight and the long-awaited, much-delayed home opener.
Tonight at 9 pm at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex, weather, mechanical and technical aspects permitting, Grey Motors United will host Listowel United.
Grey Motors comes into the game 1-2 & 1, good for 4 points while Listowel has a win in 5 outings and sits 1 point back of Owen Sound in the Premier Division standings.
