Bench Talk / Off The Wire

Can Attack Streak Continue ?

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

For the weekend, we've already mentioned the sequence of lacrosse games for the Owen Sound Junior & Bug Juice Senior NorthStars.

The annual Tara Twins Fastball Tournament is also on the docket this weekend at both Allenford & Tara.

Play starts tonight at 7 pm and runs through the Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm.

Plus, Full Throttle Motor Speedway & Hanover Raceway have action on Saturday night.

We could talk about the Blue Jays..........we could, but that ship sailed a long time ago.

Which brings us to hockey, and even that isn't overly riveting at this point of the calendar.

The National Hockey League Entry Draft begins tonight in Vancouver with the New Jersey Devils holding the 1st pick overall.

I'll watch it, of course, but my level of interest isn't sky high.

One, an Owen Sound Attack player, or goalie, might be chosen tomorrow, but the odds aren't staggering and there's no way that there will be the same number of Owen Sounders selected like 2017 or 2012.

Then again, the last time Owen Sound was blanked at the NHL Draft table was......2001. That's a pretty good run, that may, or may not, be extended this weekend.

Plus, it's not a big year for the Ontario Hockey League in general with only Arthur Kaliyev of Hamilton in the Top 10 North American skaters and Peterborough netminder Hunter Jones among the Top 3 North American netminder prospects.

Have a great weekend.

I'm Fred Wallace
