Bench Talk / Off The Wire

The Week

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

It's been a pretty eventful week on the local sports scene and the neat thing was that almost all of it dealt with on the playing surface results.

At the high school level, the Grey Highlands Lions won Bronze at the OFSAA " A-AA " Girls Rugby event in Courtice.

The St Mary's Lady Mustangs were also at the event and finished 2 & 2.

The Saugeen District Royals are in Brooklin for Day 2 of the OFSAA " A-AA " Boys Rugby Championships.

The OFSAA " AAA " Boys Field Lacrosse Championship Tournament was hosted by the Owen Sound District Wolves over the past two days.

Twelve schools competed, 11 from out of the broadcast region. How good was that for the city of Owen Sound ? And how valuable has the Kiwanis " Soccer " Complex become that it can host multiple sports on their fields ?

We'll talk about that some other day.

The Bug Juice Senior NorthStars scored a big win over Six Nations on Sunday, likely battled with City Hall this week, and now get set for a pair of games; tonight at home against KW & then tomorrow at Ennismore.

Be listening for Matt Hermiz and his debut on Joe's Garage-Shorty's Grill NorthStar radio this weekend.

The Junior NorthStars are at home tomorrow afternoon at 4 and then go to Niagara for a pivotal game on Sunday against the Thunderhawks.

We told you yesterday about the BIG event tomorrow night at Full Throttle.

And I'll see you Saturday night at Hanover Raceway for Week 2 and then Sunday afternoon for the Attack Barbecue.

Have a great weekend.

I'm Fred Wallace
