Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
It will be a day or so before the Kiwanis Soccer Complex in Owen Sound is ready for action.
But when the field is in game condition later this Spring, among the most excited to hit the pitch will be the Owen Sound Grey Motors United squad.
Grey Motors United plays in the Kitchener District Soccer League and with a couple of seasons under their belt, they know how advanced the circuit is.
But last year, somewhere around the midway point of the season, there was a remarkable turnaround and upswing for the Owen Sound side.
After getting drubbed & punished through the early stages of the 2018 season, Grey Motors came on during the backstretch and win, lose or draw, they were in every contest.
Furthermore, based on the lopsided start to their season, achieving a playoff spot was a significant accomplishment and then equally noble was the manner in which they were eliminated, losing a tough 1-0 decision to a powerful squad from Stratford.
Which makes the level of positive anticipation for this season understandable.
Currently, Grey Motors United is holding Open Workouts & fitness sessions every Sunday at St Mary's High school.
The club is also in the process of recruiting and gaining player commitments for the upcoming season, hoping to add an infusion of young players from the Owen Sound Minor Soccer program to the existing squad that made such a competitive run down the stretch of last season.
Truthfully, soccer season is months away, but for Grey Motors United the preparation for that kickoff date is well underway.
