Bench Talk / Off The Wire

Busy Wednesday

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire "

The Owen Sound Attack host the Kitchener Rangers tonight to start a pivotal week in the Ontario Hockey League.

The buzz still exists pertaining to Monday's announcement that Todd Gill was released as Head Coach of the club, but in hockey and life, that quickly becomes old news.

The new news is that Owen Sound launches a home & home with Kitchener, here tonight, there on Friday & then Owen Sound comes home to host the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday.

London, Sault, Saginaw & Guelph are gone, so that leaves Owen Sound looking over their 5th place Western Conference shoulders at Sarnia, Kitchener, Windsor.....and maybe Erie.

Pivotal sequence of games.

But enough about the Attack, let's talk about....... the Attack schedule.

How is it Guelph has a home game tonight against.......Saginaw.?

By my count Saginaw is FOUR hours away from Guelph, and the Spirit get a midweek game at the Sleeman Centre.

By my count Owen Sound is TWO hours away from Guelph and ONLY gets Friday night dates at Guelph which means four times a year, Owen Sound essentially makes a 4 hour round trip to play a home game the next night.

To a great or above average team that probably doesn't matter. But to an an average or below average team, it could lead to a valuable extra 2 points somewhere in the equation.

Alright, enough Attack

The Recharge with Milk Ontario Men's Tankard and the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts are being staged at Elmira and the matches today will go a long way to determining who is playing on the weekend.

And finally, the playoff round continues in the Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League tonight.

There are 4 games at Owen Sound Blue Water with Brett McAllister leading the " T " Flight at 2 & 0 while Mike Hamer is 2 & 0 in the " B " Flight

Play at Blue Water starts at 9 pm.

We'll see you at the Attack game against Kitchener at 7.

I'm Fred Wallace
