Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
Thursday nights are generally Hockey Nights for the Knights of Meaford, and the post Christmas schedule this year has them playing at The Castle on 6 consecutive Thursdays.
Among the games in that stretch was last Thursday when they dropped a 4-2 decision to the hard charging Bradford Bulls.
The loss for Meaford was discouraging, but not the night overall.
Last Thursday was the " Hockey Hits Cancer " game, an affiliation with an annual hockey tournament that's staged in the town each year that generates funds for Angel Hair for Kids, a division of A Child’s Voice Foundation.
Through the course of raffle draws, a 50-50 plus a jersey auction conducted by Todd Campbell almost $ 3,500 was raised for the cause- that's a pretty good Thursday night in Meaford.
The Knights hope that tonight will be a better night in terms of the result when they host the Bradford Rattlers, but there's no doubt it will be a challenge.
Bradford leads the North with a sterling record of 27 & 3.
The Knights are 19 points back, so obviously Meaford is the underdog tonight
But the Knights raised a lot of money for some youngsters last week as part of " Hockey Hits Cancer ", so maybe this Thursday night will be another great night for the underdogs.
Game time for the Rattlers & Knights is 7:30 at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre.
